Eish, it seems as though Simphiwe Dana might have done more damage than she might have thought. After the last episode of Shaka Ilembe aired, Dana took to social media to criticise Nomzamo Mbatha, accusing her and other prominent brands of stealing her style.

In a now-deleted post, Dana said people should give credit where it is due and acknowledge her in the hairstyles they use.

"I'm now fed up with brands appropriating my style. The least you can do is acknowledge where you got the ideas from. I'm talking to you, Shaka iLembe and Nomzamo Mbatha. The other sister I won't mention. It started here. Appreciate, don't appropriate."

Lazaros Sumbane, a professional hairstylist, told Briefly News that in the olden days, Africans used their hair as symbolism.

"Some of the African hairstyles were used as a form of spirituality to connect to the Gods," Lazaros shared.

He mentioned that to keep the hair pure, the people from that era refrained from applying oils, moisturisers and so on. This ultimately formed locks, which then made it easier to style their hair in different forms.
