The late Amapiano vocalist Mongezi Thomas Stuurman, popularly known as Mpura, may be gone, but he is not forgotten. His final resting place recently received a spruce-up from renowned portrait artist Oscar Dlamini, almost four years since he was laid to rest.
Mpura passed away in a tragic accident that also claimed the lives of Killer Kau and three other musicians in August 2021. They were on their way to a gig when their vehicle collided head-on with another car. Almost four years after he was laid to rest on Tuesday, 17 August 2021, Mpura’s gravesite has been turned into a memorial that reflects his impact.
Mpura's tombstone upgraded to honour his legacy
Granite art specialist Oscar Dlamini from Manyano Memorials gave Mpura a tombstone befitting an Amapiano great. Speaking to TshisaLive, Dlamini confirmed that the project was commissioned by Mpura’s family. He explained that the Umsebenzi Wethu hitmaker’s family wanted a tombstone that captured both Mpura’s legacy and the person he was off stage.
