“We saw Mampintsha's father selling CDs of one of Mampintsha's albums on the street and we thought, ‘Oh, we were touched to go into our pockets and help’.”

A look at Mampintsha's career and legacy
Mampintsha was a pioneering figure in South Africa's kwaito and gqom music scenes. He rose to fame as a founding member of the award-winning group Big Nuz, which delivered timeless classics like Umlilo and Ntombenhle, cementing their place in Durban's vibrant music culture. Their success played a pivotal role in reviving and evolving kwaito for a younger audience.
Mampintsha left Big Nuz and launched his solo career, founding West Ink Records, where he became a key figure in the gqom movement, a raw and energetic genre that emerged from Durban's townships. Under his leadership, artists like Babes Wodumo gained national and international recognition.
