Award-winning actor Glen Gabela got the attention of his industry colleagues when he pleaded for financial assistance in a viral video on social media.

Gabela also received a response from the Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie, who promised to get back to him this week.

Generations: The Legacy actress Sannah Mchunu posted the video on her Instagram account on Thursday, 14 August 2025, of Gabela asking for donations and captioned the video: "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on us💔🥺🙏."

The former Gomora actress also said she hopes the actor will get a role soon and added:

"Akukho ngisho nama auditions ku dry dry (there are currently no auditions). Ama actors ethu ahlaselwe yi depression impilo ayikho bandla ngapha sebekhulile yooo umuntu kube waziyela eShopryt🤞," (Our actors get depressed in their old age. We see them at Shoprite.)

South African actors and fans of the star respond to the video

House of Zwide actor Khaya Dladla, who starred opposite Gabela on Uzalo, said:

House of Zwide actress Winnie Ntshaba reacted with sad emojis and wrote:

Skeem Saam actor Tiisetso Thoka replied:

"My goodness, this is heartbreaking. Our industry is really affecting our mental health💔😢."

Glen Gabela’s alleged daughter calls him out
