Katiso Molefe, the businessman accused of masterminding the murder of DJ Sumbody, has been dealt a blow by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.

Molefe, who was arrested at his Sandton home on Monday, 21 July 2025, while on bail for an unrelated murder case, has been in and out of court in a bid for freedom. The closing arguments in the controversial businessman’s bail application were heard last week, and the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court handed down judgment today, Wednesday, 20 August 2025.

Molefe will remain behind bars after Magistrate Renier Boshoff denied him bail in a judgment on Wednesday morning. Journalist Kgomotso Modise on X, who also shared that Katiso Molefe will return to court in September.

In denying Molefe bail, Magistrate Renier Boshoff said the businessman’s legal team had failed to prove exceptional circumstances to justify his release on bail. The update read:

“JUST IN: Katiso 'KT' Molefe has been denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates' Court. Magistrate Renier Boshoff has ruled that he failed to prove exceptional circumstances to justify his release on bail. He will return to court on 18 September.”

Why was the DJ Sumbody murder accused denied bail?

Newzroom Afrika journalist Linda Mnisi shared that the Alexandra Magistrates' Court also noted that Molefe is a man of financial means and poses a flight risk. The update read:

Police confirm why DJ Sumbody was murdered

Meanwhile, Briefly News reported that the investigating officer in the DJ Sumbody murder case revealed, through the prosecutor, the alleged motive behind the murder of Oupa John Sefoka.

This was revealed during court proceedings on Wednesday, 6 August 2025, while Katiso "KT" Molefe formally applied for bail, ending speculation on why DJ Sumbody was assassinated.
