A South African man on TikTok, Thando Xaba, explained to Mzansi that men also experience pretty privilege, but those who aren’t considered conventionally pretty often suffer the most.
He made an example about desirability and dating. Xaba said men who are not attractive often have to acquire other qualities to attract women, compared to the handsome guys who get tons of messages from the ladies without even trying:
“We had to learn seduction. We had to take the time to study women's psychology. Confidence is the only thing that saved us from a life of obscurity. Most of the opportunities that I got in my life are because I’ve been confident.”
To prove his point further, Xaba explained how he missed out on a big opportunity because of his looks. He had planned an event at the university and approached an investor who was recommended by a friend:

A TikTok video of a young boy went viral in days, attracting thousands of reactions across social media
“That man did not know how I looked; we only spoke on the phone. I asked a friend of mine to accompany me to meet him. The investor thought my more attractive friend, who was built like a Zulu warrior, was the one asking for the investment. He realised the error.”
The gentleman highlighted that pretty privilege is very unfair and that it has been proven to exist numerous times.
Xaba captioned his TikTok post:
“Pretty privilege exists for guys, too.”

@Wenzy explained:
“My male friend is a handsome, tall, light-skinned gent; he gets asked out by girls, and girls flirt with him in front of me. The problem is he's genuinely an introverted good guy and girls reject him after realising his personality isn't the fantasy.”

“I feel like a woman can date an unattractive guy, but a man can never date an unattractive girl. Girls can be with someone for their personality.”
@mqaqhi_wayo explained:
“I'm 32 and I've been perceived as handsome from when I was young. My best friend used to tell me every day that I have it easier due to my looks. I denied this all my life coz it wasn't fair. I'm a smart guy, but my efforts get reduced to "you're lucky because you're handsome". I stopped denying this when I was 27. I literally got a job because the team stalked my LinkedIn and thought it would be nice to have a guy who looks exotic. Imagine, after all my hard work during three interviews, I only got the job coz the women in the team wanted something nice to look at.”

“Clean up well, dress up always, learn to articulate yourself properly, and hit the gym. Those little things will separate you from others. Most importantly, make money, lots of it.”
