A father's quick thinking and loving support stole the show when his young daughter became overwhelmed during a dance performance.

The touching video, shared by Mpumalanga-based content creator @muzziesean at the end of June, shows girls of various ages performing a ballet and contemporary dance routine in matching yellow tops.

When one of the youngest performers started crying and turned away from the audience, her father didn't hesitate to help. He walked onto the stage and picked up his daughter, comforting her before joining the performance himself. The caption read:

The dad carried his daughter throughout the routine, attempting the dance moves while holding her. When the girls formed a circle and joined hands, he participated by holding one child's hand while carrying his daughter. Though the circle eventually broke because he couldn't reach both sides, he managed to support his child through the entire performance.

The crowd cheered as the caring father showed that being present for your children means stepping outside your comfort zone when they need you most.

How parent involvement affects children

According to GreaterGood.org, parental involvement plays a major role in shaping a child's future development. Active parents contribute to better academic performance, stronger cognitive skills, and improved emotional well-being. Children with supportive parents develop better problem-solving abilities and form healthier relationships later in life.

Good parenting provides the foundation for mental health, social skills, and overall life satisfaction. When parents show up for their children during difficult moments, it builds confidence and security that lasts into adulthood.

Briefly News spoke to psychological expert Jayshri Rangasamy regarding why parents should strive to be present parents. She stated that:

"Having present parents offers significant benefits, such as emotional security, consistent support, and guidance that contribute to a child’s healthy development, self-esteem, and academic success. Their involvement can foster strong family bonds and provide a stable environment."
"However, there can also be downsides if the presence becomes overbearing or controlling, potentially stifling a child’s independence or creating pressure to meet high expectations. Additionally, if the parents are physically present but emotionally unavailable or inconsistent, it can lead to confusion and emotional distress. The key lies in the quality of presence, not just the quantity, with space for autonomy."
