Youtuber and accountant Itumeleng Moloto offered her two cents to a married man and woman who are having financial clashes. The couple with vastly different levels of income were candid about the problems they faced.

Itumeleng Moloto provided a detailed look at the married couple's income and expenses, which went viral. People discussed whether his wife disrespected him with her decisions as a higher earner.

Accountant, Itumeleng Moloto, presented the case of a couple where the husband, a truck driver, earns R9,000 per month while his wife, a mechanical engineer, earns R71,000 per month. They said their biggest disagreement stems from a R250,000 bonus that the wife is due to earn at work. The husband wants his wife to build their retirement home in his mother's yard, but she wants to pay off her dream car, a Mercedes-Benz.

R80k-earners behind on school fees

Looking at their finances, financial guru Ms Moloto discovered that the couple was falling behind on their children's school fees. Both of the children's fees amount to R20,000, but they've been paying half. Seeing the fees debt, the accountant argued that the couple's biggest problem is not the R250,000 bonus, and they are "fighting about the wrong thing."

She went on to discover other major expenses the couple has, which include the wife's monthly "girl maintenance" of R7,000, maintenance to her mother for R6,000, and other expenses primarily focused on the wife. After noticing the trend in their expenses, the financial advisor said the husband feels disrespected because their expenses mostly have to do with the wife. The YouTuber asserted that, even though the husband earns less, their net income is equally his, but that is not reflected in their financial records.

Ms Moloto advised the couple to work together so that they can find solutions to cover their outstanding expenses. The financial advisor said the wife insists on keeping her children in an expensive school because her colleagues do the same. She urged the couple to consider their lived experience and not look at the outside. Ms Moloto said even though the wife earns more, she still needs to let her husband in, as they are still in some financial strife.

"I know it's a joke and all, but there is an element of truth to this, be it facetious and all... this is precisely the reason why ( in general), men shy away from women who earn more."

"It’s actually funny to see a lot of women complaining about R71k vs R9k, that time some of those women are currently maintaining their BOYFRIENDS. They are the ones paying the rent, for the car, buying groceries, etc."
