Matlala to take legal action

It is alleged that Matlala’s lawyer, Victor Nkhwashu, issued a letter to the director of public prosecutions in Gauteng North, Advocate Elizabeth Le Roux. Nkhwashu is demanding answers about the confiscated items. The lawyer gave the state until Wednesday, 6 August 2025, to respond, or he and his client will take action.

It is alleged that Nkhwashu requested copies of the search warrants and affidavits of the outcomes of the investigations. Matlala's legal team aims to approach the higher court to protect his constitutional rights.

Matlala’s legal team said their client requested that all information related to the case, which was made public by the South African Police Service through KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on 6 July 2025, be included in the disclosure of outstanding material.

This request also covers any information or items reportedly handed over to the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption, a permanent unit within the National Prosecuting Authority.
