Kaizer Chiefs are planning to improve their performance this season in the league after their poor outing last season.

The Glamour Boys have kick-started that journey with a 2-0 win in their season opener in the Betway Premiership against Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday.

The Soweto giants won the Nedbank Cup last season despite their poor performance in the Betway Premiership, but they are now gunning for the league title this campaign.

Top 3 crucial players for Kaizer Chiefs this season

1 Thabo Cele

Despite Kaizer Chiefs poor performance in the league last season, Cele was one of the best players for the club as his impressive showings in the midfield didn't go unnoticed.

Having joined the Glamour Boys with European experience and a little national team pedigree, Cele would be another crucial player for Nasreddine Nabi's side this season.

Cele brings structure, control, and creativity in the middle of the park, while being calm under pressure and also tactically intelligent.

The South African midfielder also has the ability to dictate the tempo of a match just like the Xavi Hernandes and he is very good in transition.

For Chiefs to have a good season, Cele would be a key member to lead that charge from the midfield this campaign.

2 Glody Lilepo

Lilepo joined Kaizer Chiefs in January same as Cele, and quickly got himself familiar with his new environment and was arguably the Glamour Boys best player since when he joined the club.

The Congolese forward has already shown glimpses of his flair and explosiveness on the wings. He is also known to possess good goal scoring ability and he's capable of unlocking defences with his pace, and dribbling.

As Nabi continues to build attacking chemistry, Lilepo's contribution in the attack, whether through goals, assists, or drawing defenders, could be the difference in tight matches for the Soweto giants.

3 Mduduzi Shabalala

The 21-year-old is rated as one of the brightest talents in the Premier Soccer League and he is a product of Kaizer Chiefs' development system.

Shabalala showed glimpses of his awesome performance at the beginning of last season, but was unable to maintain the performance consistently.

The South African has the ability to operate between the lines, link up play, score goals and create scoring opportunities.

Nabi would hope the Bafana Bafana midfielder would be consistent this season and help their quest to mount a title challenge.
